Free to Be Me

SweetfreedomI was sitting at my desk today, doing a little freelance design work and listening to my daughter sing as she works on her assignments for school. As I worked, I looked out my window, as I often do, to just think and enjoy the beauty of the day. I quickly noticed our neighborhood hawk friend soaring high above the tree line this morning. He pays us a visit often, but today in particular, I couldn’t take my eyes off of him. He was completely uninhibited and enjoying his life. I watched him expertly maneuver his wings to soar through the sky with beauty and grace. As I watched, I began to think about the freedom this hawk has. He has the entire sky to fly and there really are no limits to where he can go.

Then I began to think about my life and all the chaos there seems to be in it so often. The times its seems so hard to rise above water and how I long to soar with no restrictions. How lovely it would be to have complete freedom. In that moment, I was reminded that I do have that freedom. I have it in Christ. He has given me the ability to rise above any circumstance I find myself in. He has set before me a potential that is far above anything I can fathom or imagine. He has given me wisdom, strength, beauty and grace. He longs for me to use every fiber of my being to pursue the best version of “me” possible. He wants me to serve Him by making this world a better place. He has equipped me to do the impossible because I am His child and He is working through me.

So often, I forget to remember this. I forget to remember where He has brought me from and where He will take me. I forget that He is right here holding my hand and waiting for me to call upon Him. How different my life would be if, I remembered!

Friend, are you like me — tired and weary many days? Are you overwhelmed with your circumstances and the direction of your life? Forgetting all God has done for you and the promises He has made for your life? Do you long for the sweet freedom that can only be found in a life lived for God. The Bible promises us in Isaiah 40:31 that God will give us the strength just like those mighty birds to take on anything.

Isaiah 40:31
But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

I want so much to be that girl who doesn’t grow weary and soars for her Heavenly Father every single day. Share with me your thoughts. What do you struggle with? Do you get weary and tired with life’s pressures? Do you long for that sweet freedom found only in a life entrusted to Christ?

  1. Ah the weary tug of life, it does a number on our souls, doesn’t it? In the deepest, darkest part of our journey He was all we had and the only One we could turn to. How I can relate to this article. The only hope we ever had was, and still is, Jesus. When the homelessness and suffering was overwhelming we would remember Isaiah 40:31 and His promise to us and it kept us taking that next step. Yes, only Jesus can take us through such a hard journey and give us the freedom we so longed for. Not the freedom from the hardship but the freedom from ‘self’ that turned any situation into a catastrophe. Freedom from ‘self’ is what we are most thankful for.
